The Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (Weatherization) is the nation’s core program for delivering energy efficiency services to low income households. Every year, Weatherization generates significant benefits for low income families and communities across the nation. The program performs cost effective energy efficiency retrofits in nearly 70,000 low income homes annually. Weatherization measures create average annual cost savings of $ 300 per home at current prices. Weatherization alleviates the high energy burden faced by low income Americans, enabling them to gain increased financial independence.

Waccamaw EOC, Inc the non-profit Community Action Agency serving Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg Counties, for a limited time is accepting applications from income eligible families who live in a single family dwelling to participate in the Weatherization Assistance Program funded by USDOE and USDHHS. The program funds are limited and are only for a certain number of dwellings in each County.

The program’s mission is to reduce the heating and cooling cost for low-income families, particularly for elderly, people with disabilities, households with children, and high energy users by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. The percentages for these categories are elderly households at 50%, disabled households at 20%, households with children under 18 at 20%, and high energy households at 10%. This program is not for housing rehabilitation. There are also health, safety, and structural requirements that must be met before a dwelling can be accepted for the Program. Due to the limited funds, the application process is not continuous for the program year. Please call 843-234-4140 for further information. Applications will be taken on an appointment basis by the Weatherization staff and the public will be notified of locations and times. All CSBG Offices will take referrals for the Weatherization Program.
